From One Senior to Another, During COVID-19
Hi, I am Jerome Krachenfels, president and co-founder of UNJURY Protein.
Healthy aging is really important to me, especially as I approach 70. I want to do everything I can do to stay healthy and vigorous – well into my 80s with any luck! So far, I am holding the line better than I have hoped and wanted to share a little bit of my story with you – hoping you will find it valuable.

This year, I am 69 years strong! I might not be making Arnold jealous, and I am not considering a marathon, but my doctor says I have enough lean muscle to qualify as “athletic”.
I feel good enough to be physically active every day. I usually swim hard every other day, but I really enjoying hiking too. Last October, I hiked with a friend deep into the Grand Canyon and back out in the same day. It was physically tough, not just for us, but a lot of other hikers who were younger -- but I was strong enough to do it. My balance is good and I had the endurance to make the trek while thoroughly enjoying the spectacular scenery.
So, what is my secret?
I follow a simple rule of thumb that is based on medical research. We need 30 grams of protein, 3x per day to protect muscle as we age. In fact, I get even more than that every day – more than 120 grams per day, and I weight 165 lbs. It’s that simple.
So far, my combination of higher protein and lots of exercise is working! If you want to do one important thing for yourself today to help fight the aging process – GET MORE PROTEIN. It’s easier than physical therapy and much more pleasant than taking a handful of pills!
It’s especially important with COVID-19 --please pay attention to keeping your immune system strong. The heart of your immune system is your white cells and some of them only live for 48 or even 24 hours. So, you need to be making more all the time. Doing that well takes plenty of protein! We strongly recommend getting enough sleep, keep stress as low as you can (exercise helps with stress AND supports your immune system), and certainly get good nutrition.
