Pre-diabetes means that your blood sugar level is higher than normal, but that it’s not yet high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, people with pre-diabetes are at greater risk to develop heart disease, and have a stroke than people without pre-diabetes. Within 5 years, 15-30% of people with pre-diabetes will develop type 2 diabetes. Making lifestyle changes, such as losing weight, making some dietary changes, and exercising, can help prevent developing type 2 diabetes.
You can keep pre-diabetes from becoming diabetes by reducing weight, and controlling your blood sugar levels.
