Weight Maintenance is Possible When You Commit to Your Protein Goals
Losing the weight after weight loss surgery is challenging, but that is only half the battle. Maintaining your healthy weight for the long-term is the real goal, and that is VERY challenging too.
The good news is that weight maintenance IS possible. Here are the top 3 things that you can do to keep a stable, healthy weight forever.
- Commit to your protein goals every day – not just right after surgery-- but forever. Remember 30-30-30 – 30 grams of protein, 3 x each day. Research says that when you get 90 grams of protein, spread evenly throughout the day, you can protect and even strengthen muscle, and muscle has a huge impact on your metabolism.
- Stay active and include regular strength training. Alternate between cardio exercise and strength exercises to develop strong, lean muscles which can improve insulin sensitivity. More muscle also helps you burn more calories each day, even at rest.
- Keep up with hydration. Thirst is often mistaken as hunger which could lead to extra calories. Water is also really important for helping metabolize fat, because water interacts with fat cells to start the breakdown process.
