Focus on Four Things to Get Energy Back
Low energy? Difficulty waking up in the morning? Run down by midafternoon? These are common frustrations. Many people experience fatigue, but they don’t know what’s causing it or how to fix it.
Living with extreme fatigue can affect your weight and overall health. Exhaustion creates more stress in your body and a lack of sleep can make you crave higher carb, sugary foods for quick energy boosts.
To get your energy back, focus on four simple things:
- Vitamin and mineral levels. Three common vitamin or mineral deficiencies that can cause fatigue are iron, vitamin B12 and vitamin D. It’s important to get your lab work done regularly to screen for deficiencies, especially if you are not feeling like yourself. If you have a vitamin or mineral deficiency, get back to a regular vitamin routine.
- Hydration. When your body doesn’t have the water that it needs it doesn’t function optimally. Your body needs water for many of the chemical processes that take place in your cells. Dehydration can affect metabolism, brain function, and overall energy levels.
- Your sleep routine. If your body doesn’t get enough rest each night, it can’t do the repair work and hormone regulation that allows you to feel good the next day. Chronic sleep deprivation can have a devastating effect on stress levels, exercise routines, mood and even weight. Consider seeing a sleep specialist.
- Protein nutrition. People who don’t get enough protein can develop severe fatigue. Your body needs protein with all the amino acids (building blocks) to repair and rebuild tissue, especially after injury, illness, weight loss and especially as we age. Protein calorie malnutrition can have a devastating effect on someone’s energy levels, mental clarity, and overall health.
The good news is that you can take control today, and feel better soon.
Focus on your body’s basic needs: water, sleep, protein and vitamins to get your energy back today.
